Australian spin coach Terry Jenner wants his most famous pupil to have a rest.
If he’s injured (yes he should rest), and I’m a long way away, but just watching him bowl the other night you’d say he’s either extremely tired or injured, because he doesn’t bowl like that,” Jenner said today.
“So my thoughts would be that he should be put in some cotton wool because we’re going to need him later in the year.
“He’s got a season with Hampshire to come so there’s no rest for him.
“I know he deserves the opportunity to get some wickets against Bangladesh, but not at the risk of affecting later in the year.”
Of course, the Shane Warne we all know and love is not the sort of person to back down. Given the mauling he’s had so far, he’ll be hungry to get back at the Bangladesh batsmen who have smashed him all over the park. My guess is that he’ll only sit out the Second Test if forced.
Of course, given all that, I doubt he’ll be particularly effective for Hampshire this season as a bowler, although Hampshire do seem to grow another leg under his leadership.
