Only one Australian batsman in the top-ten

Just before I go…when was the last time just one Australian batsman was in the top-ten of the ICC (formerly PWC) rankings? Ponting is the lone batter for Aus; Andrew Strauss and Marcus Trescothick are the two Englishmen. I certainly can’t remember a time when there were more Englishmen than Australians in the batting rankings…anyone?

Interestingly, there are two Australians (McGrath and Warne of course) and two Englishmen (Flintoff and Hoggard) in the bowling top-10 rankings. But England have three more in the top 25 (Harmison, Jones & Giles) to Australia’s one (Gillespie). That does suggest, if you needed further proof, that England outbowled Australia significantly with their change-bowlers.

I’ll get my coat.
