I thought this photo, found on Flickr, was absolutely awesome: the old and the new, at Lord’s. Lord’s is often talked about as having a special atmosphere, players almost able to “smell” the history of the ground – and with the Pavilion and the Long Room, it is steeped in tradition. But it’s also a ground which is constantly evolving and changing and modernising – almost seamlessly.
When the Media Centre went up a few years ago, it was likened to a spaceship (and Cherie Blair’s mouth)…there were some doubts as to whether old and new would mix successfully. It’s now a firm favourite with most fans at the ground, and rightly so – absolutely stunning building, if that’s your bag.
So, I loved seeing this photo of the Long Room (wood. Lots of brown, old wood) and the uber-modern, uber-understated (uber-white!) Media Centre. What a contrast.
