Minor point, but noteworthy that they should name it the morning after their victory. That’s Australian-style confidence on show. In the past twenty years, when Australia would walk all over England – with spikes on – the English team would often not only be nursing a battered pride, but half of them would end up injured. Moreover, no one knew who was playing, nor why!
All that has changed. I said before this Ashes series, when many were laughing at England’s chirpy confidence, that this team’s “staff” in the background and the management (and Captain) were key reasons for the rejuvination of the side. It is settled, and confident, and that is displaying itself this morning.
No news on McGrath yet. Surely Shaun Tait or Stuart MacGill must be given a chance? I don’t know how Tait bats, but both are likely to lengthen Australia’s tail.
Woe betide he who underestimates Australia…
